You know what I did on vacation? LAUNDRY!!! I admit I am happy I did it so it is now one less thing to do when I get back but still it is vacation. As a mom of three 7, 4, and 7 months I know that a mom never truly gets to take a vacation. I have spent most of my time at the condo with the baby feeding him or letting him nap. A few years a go I did the same thing with E at a music conference and the TV had terrible Chanel’s and the Internet did not work – it was terrible!!! At least this time I have ok Internet and ok TV. In fact the best part of vacation has been watching the Chew and drinking a glass of wine as the baby napped.

Don’t think that once you kids are grown that you get out of the mom trap on vacation. We are here without my husband so when I can’t take the kids swimming, out on the boat, to get ice cream, or whatever other activity their is guess who gets to do it MY MOM! She even made a comment that she had done nothing for her self at one point.

It was my mom or I that took care of most of the meals and the dishes. We did plan to eat at the condo to save money and my step dad helped with dinner. When all was said and done the majority of the work went to the moms.

So what if all the moms just went on vacation together? I don’t know about you but I don’t think I would want to come home to the aftermath of being gone for more than about three days and the prep work to be gone would be sooooooo tiring that I would not enjoy the vacation. Don’t get me wrong my husband is a fantastic guy and does a lot around the house ( even laundry ) but it is just not the same.

So I guess I will never have another vacation……well maybe in 18 years when the baby goes to college I can sneak one in.

Summer Purge – Donation June 3, 2013

One of my main goals for this summer is to purge the things we don’t need any more. We have stuffed animals that have been in storage for years, cloths of Ks I need to pass on, bang stuff people passed on to us I will never use, and baby stuff we are done with. (Luckily my little sister got married last year and wants all of the baby and maternity stuff! )

Today I loaded up my car with stuff to drop off tomorrow.

The bags on the left go to my husbands aunt for her little girl. The stuff on the right will go to a local place that takes donations. My living room is just full of stuff right now but I have to keep it where I can see it or I will never get it done. This make my husband crazy so it is a good thing he is out of town!

Post it to do list June 2, 2013

Well my husband left today for the first of many long trips this summer. That leaves me with three kids and everything. I know there are people that do this all the time but I am not one of them. I also found out that I got the teaching job I want in the big town close to us. It is only .87 time but pays well.

I now have some motivation to really clean this house, purge things, and get some plans in place for the big changes we will have to make next school year. The only problem is I am totally sleep deprived and for large stretches of time a single parent with thee kids and one is a baby! I forget what I opened the pantry for how am I going to remember what I want/need to get done????

In an odd moment of clarity I had an idea……post it notes.

Ok it is not the best looking think but here is the idea. Every time I come up with something I need/ want to do I am going to put it on a post it and stick it to the cabinet door that I walk by a million times a day. I put the things that need to be done NOW at eye level and the less important ones higher up. I will then move them down as needed. When I get something do I get to through it away…that is going to feel good. So what about when people come over? I am just going to put them on the inside of the door. I also think this might work for me because when I make a list I losse it. This way my husband will also knows what needs to be done. We will see how this works but I have to say I am kind of excited about it

Three things that have saved me time, money, and sanity January 9, 2013

We all went back to school for a full week this week. This is my first full week back in four months and we now have a new born to add to the mix. In order to try and make things a bit more stream line I have found three things that help a lot.

1. Make all of the sack lunches on Sunday. This keeps us from spending money on school lunch (or the vending machine) and all I have to do is put the pre made items in every ones lunch box the night before. It took me an hour on Sunday night but I have 19 sack lunches ready to go! (I know that is one short for three people and a five day week but my daughter likes to get the school lunch on Wednesday.)

2. Make my breakfast for the week on Sunday. I don’t ever have time to eat in the morning before I leave. I have always eaten in the car or once I get to school (not the best but better then not eating at all). This means I have to pack breakfast. This week I took 30 min and made my self 5 egg breakfast sandwiches that I wrapped in a paper towel and then in foil. I stashed them in the bottom of the fridge door so all I have to do it grab one, unwrap the foil, microwave it for 1 min, re wrap in foil, and but in my lunch bag. It is about 30 min from the time I warm it up until I get to eat it and it is still warm!

3. Make dinner in the crock pot the night before. If you are like me you are gone to long during the day to make something in the crock pot. I have found that the best way to still use my crock pot is the put the dinner I need for the next night in when I get home. When I do this I am there when the food is done and I don’t have to take time to cook dinner. I pack it up and put it in the fridge then warm up what we need in the microwave the next night.

This is the sweet Crock Pot set my Dad and Step-mom got me when I had the baby! LOVE IT!!

I will blog more about how I do each of these things latter but this week has been crazy! What tips do you have that help you and your busy family get through the week with some sanity left at the end? Leave a comment and let us know. I am always looking for a way to make life simpler.

Remember to follow me on Pinterest. Check on the Meal Plan Favorites board to find the crock pot recipes I used this week and other recipes that we have in joyed. I will up date it as we try new meals that my family things are winners!

I am sure that you have seen this on Face Book but I challenge you to take part in it.  What a better way to make someones day.  Have not seen it yet????  Post it on your FB and get it started!!!

2013 Creative Pay-It-Forward Project: The first five people to comment on this status will receive from me, sometime in the next calendar year, a gift – perhaps a book, or baked goods, or a candle, music – a surprise! There will likely be no warning and it will happen whenever the mood strikes me. The catch? Those five people must make the same offer in their FB status.

I will blog about the gifts that I give as the year goes on. Happy Giving!

New Year Prep! December 31, 2012

Spending the day cleaning the house to start the New Year off with a big  smile on our faces. Not much else to do with the winter wounder we have in our backyard right now! My husband is going to take the big kids out later.  Getting together some things for our little family New Years celebration. Sill have to complete my resolutions…nothing like putting things off to the last second! 011This is our back yard right now and there is more on the way!

I have gotten some small projects done to blog about and I will have a project with the kids for tonight to blog about too! Be on the look out.

Pondering the new year December 21, 2012

I have never made New Years Resolutions before but with all the changes in my life in the last 5 months I was thinking it might be a good thing to try. I need to set some goals that I can meet that will help improve my life, my family, my community  and the education of my students and then try to find a way to make it work.  Having never done this before I am not sure where to start. Being a teacher we have to make mission statements for things all the time. As much as this practice makes me crazy most of the time I think it is a good place to start. I still have so many questions in my head about how to do this.

How many resolutions do I need to have?

Do I rank them by importance?

Do I start them all at ones? (this seems like a set up to fail if you ask me)

Do I add one a month?

Do I ask my husband to do it with me?

How do I hold my self accountable?

Why do I have to make everything so complicated?

Have any suggestions on how to go about this? If you do leave a comment and let me know I need all the help I can get.
