When Do I Sit Down?

Modern mom just trying to make it!

TO GO mug TO STAY June 3, 2013

When I am home and trying to get things done I have a bad habit of poring my coffee (or opening a Coke) and walking away from it. When you don’t sit down most of the day it is an easy thing to do. I have been reading the blog A Slob Comes Clean a lot the last few days (LOVE this blog). I have been using it as motivation to clean the house. I have been trying to do small tasks whenever I can. Getting a lot done but that meas less sitting and more leaving my coffee.  I remembered something thins morning…a TO GO cup!

This way when I poor my coffee and walk away it is still warm when I come back! I took it with me to drop the big kids off, when I feed the baby when I got home, and it is sitting next to me right now keeping my coffee warm for when I get a chance to take my next drink. Simple things that make me smile!  : )

Post it to do list June 2, 2013

Well my husband left today for the first of many long trips this summer. That leaves me with three kids and everything. I know there are people that do this all the time but I am not one of them. I also found out that I got the teaching job I want in the big town close to us. It is only .87 time but pays well.

I now have some motivation to really clean this house, purge things, and get some plans in place for the big changes we will have to make next school year. The only problem is I am totally sleep deprived and for large stretches of time a single parent with thee kids and one is a baby! I forget what I opened the pantry for how am I going to remember what I want/need to get done????

In an odd moment of clarity I had an idea……post it notes.

Ok it is not the best looking think but here is the idea. Every time I come up with something I need/ want to do I am going to put it on a post it and stick it to the cabinet door that I walk by a million times a day. I put the things that need to be done NOW at eye level and the less important ones higher up. I will then move them down as needed. When I get something do I get to through it away…that is going to feel good. So what about when people come over? I am just going to put them on the inside of the door. I also think this might work for me because when I make a list I losse it. This way my husband will also knows what needs to be done. We will see how this works but I have to say I am kind of excited about it

I am sure that you have seen this on Face Book but I challenge you to take part in it.  What a better way to make someones day.  Have not seen it yet????  Post it on your FB and get it started!!!

2013 Creative Pay-It-Forward Project: The first five people to comment on this status will receive from me, sometime in the next calendar year, a gift – perhaps a book, or baked goods, or a candle, music – a surprise! There will likely be no warning and it will happen whenever the mood strikes me. The catch? Those five people must make the same offer in their FB status.

I will blog about the gifts that I give as the year goes on. Happy Giving!

I am sitting here, in my quite house, going through the mental check list of things I have to do before tomorrow.  What is tomorrow? My first day back to work in about four months. After 8 weeks of bed rest and 8 weeks home with the baby tomorrow is the day. My lunch and breakfast are packed, to go coffee cup is at the ready, stuff for the babies new sitter in the car (so I don’t forget it), first semester grades completed and turned in, and lesson plans done. On paper I am ready. I was only at this school for three weeks when I had to take leave so going back is like starting new all over. There have been many ups and down is the time I have been off. I am doing the best I can to focus on the positive and not dwell on the unknown of how I am going to make this work.

When I get up in the morning it is truly going to be a new day and a new chapter of my life.

Mother of 3 – 7 years, 3 years, and 2 months

High School and Elementary Vocal music director

Church Choir Director

Adjunct Prof. Of Education with two online class (one I am teaching for the first time)

Wife of a band director

I know there is much more to my life than that and that I am defined by more then this. But when I look at that list I think “How is this possible? How can I make this work?”  We will see my friends and I hope you are there to see me through and lend me support. I will do my best to give you an up date tomorrow night on how it went. It is a Wednesday so I have church choir after my first full day of teaching in four months…I may pass out as soon as I get home!

Resolutions for 2013 – Improve You! December 31, 2012

Filed under: Cleaning,Meal Planing,Organization,Self Improvement,Shape Up — hmyers1 @ 8:52 pm

I have decided that my theme for 2013 is………….. Improve You!

I am going to try to do small things to improve my life. I am going to hold my self accountable but not set goals that are unobtainable.  I plan on printing of one page yearly calenders for each goal to mark off the days/weeks/months that I have done what I needed to do. Here are the goals.

1. Live a more active life stile.  — I need to loos about 30 lb but I don’t want to stress about numbers. I will be checking my weight and keeping track of it. I hope to be active on 50% or more of the days in each month.

2. Work on organizing my home. — I will be doing this by particaping in the Monthly Organization Challenge from DaNita over at Delighful Order. (Very EXCITED!!)

3. Have international night once a month. — My daughter and I had the idea that we should have a food from one nation that we have not had. We also want to try and fined a movie or activity that goes with it.

4. Become a more educated professional. — I have my Masters in Education but I feel that in the last year I have not expanded my knowledge of the things that I teach. I will read one article, or part of a book, about educational technology and music education.

I think this is good for me. I have some other things that I would like to work on too but these are the biggies. Leave a comment below and let us know what your resolutions are and how you plan to accomplish them.

Happy New year and lets see what 2013 brings!

New Year Prep!

Spending the day cleaning the house to start the New Year off with a big  smile on our faces. Not much else to do with the winter wounder we have in our backyard right now! My husband is going to take the big kids out later.  Getting together some things for our little family New Years celebration. Sill have to complete my resolutions…nothing like putting things off to the last second! 011This is our back yard right now and there is more on the way!

I have gotten some small projects done to blog about and I will have a project with the kids for tonight to blog about too! Be on the look out.

Pondering the new year December 21, 2012

I have never made New Years Resolutions before but with all the changes in my life in the last 5 months I was thinking it might be a good thing to try. I need to set some goals that I can meet that will help improve my life, my family, my community  and the education of my students and then try to find a way to make it work.  Having never done this before I am not sure where to start. Being a teacher we have to make mission statements for things all the time. As much as this practice makes me crazy most of the time I think it is a good place to start. I still have so many questions in my head about how to do this.

How many resolutions do I need to have?

Do I rank them by importance?

Do I start them all at ones? (this seems like a set up to fail if you ask me)

Do I add one a month?

Do I ask my husband to do it with me?

How do I hold my self accountable?

Why do I have to make everything so complicated?

Have any suggestions on how to go about this? If you do leave a comment and let me know I need all the help I can get.
