When Do I Sit Down?

Modern mom just trying to make it!

Crayon box from Duct Tape and an old box January 2, 2013

I was cleaning my elementary classroom today after my extended leave getting ready from the first day back from wither brake. Because I had only been a school for three weeks before I left I still had lots of things I had not gotten done. One of those things was organize a quick way to hand out crayons to the kids. Being a music teacher we don’t have desk or tables that the kids sit at. They sit on the ground! We don’t use crayons all the time so to save money I get the discarded crayons from the art room or that I have purged from my kids at home. All I had was an ice cream bucket of crayons and that was not working.  I thought of several different things I had seen on Pinterest and hit the clearance at Wal-Mart and this is what I came up with.

Here are my supplies: Popcorn box from the recycle bin at school, ice cream cups that where on clearance at Wal-Mart for 75 cents, and  two colors of Duct Tape.

This was fast an easy. First I cut off the flaps from the box (I did save the cardboard never know when I might need that). Then I simply covered that box with the tape. Then I put one pack of the cups in the box.

There are eight cups in the pack and only seven fit. The nice thing is the box is deep so I can go two high if I think I need to.

I will decide how many cups I want when I get to school tomorrow and fill them with crayons.  This should work well. I can had one student the box and have them hand the cups to each group to share!

Pinterest Review – Get your Tub Clean WITHOUT Blue DAWN! June 28, 2012

This is only kind of a Pinterest Review. There are several pins on Penterest that say if you use equal parts white vinegar and blue Dawn that your tub will the the cleanest it has ever been. My mom tried it and say id was amazing. I wanted to know if it had to be blue Dawn so I did it a bit diftent….I used Pamolive! I was impressed my tub looks the best it ever has! I know we put it in two years ago. One bathroom that four people use the tub/shower gets a lot of use. The truth is I HATE cleaning the bathroom but this was so easy.  I sprayed the tub. When and did some quick things and hung a load of laundry.  When I came back I wiped out the tub and gave it a good rinse. I thought it looked good so I called in the 6 year old to get the honset oppion that only a child can give. I asked her to look at the tub and she said “WOW! It is soooo shiny!”. I give it a GOLD star. Bet part…it was free! I had gotten the dish soap and the vinegar for free on some couponing trips! Even if you have to pay full price this is still super cheep!

What you need:

Equal parts of white vinegar and dish soap

Empty spray bottle (mine is an old glass cleaner bottle)

Put the vinegar in the bottle and warm it up. I had to warm it before I put it in the bottle because the bottle was to tall for my microwave!  I warmed it in the glass bottle for 1 min and then put it in the spray bottle. I then added the soap and shook it up.

This is my nasty tub….yep it is that bad…I hate cleaning the bathroom…I know this is sick.

This is my nice clean tub after I let it dry for an hour. It is not all wet it is just that clean!

Cucumbers in yogurt dill sauce June 24, 2012

You will find out that I think a recipe is a suggestion and then I can do what I want with it. Here is the link to the original recipe for Cucumber Salad with Sour Cream and Dill  from Martha Stewart that I pined from Pinetest.  So you might ask why did I not just use this recipe? The reason is I am the only one in the house that eats cucumbers. I had one cucumber and that is all I wanted the recipe to make. This is how I made the recipe work for me.

You will need:

1 cucumber (mine was a seedless one that I got on sale at Aldi)

1 teaspoon line juice

1 teaspoon chopped fresh dill

1/3 cup plan yogurt

sat and pepper to taste

First I chopped the cucumber into slices and then cut the slices into quarters.  I will still have the kids try the cucumbers and I thought this would be simpler for them to eat then half slices.

I put the cucumber into a bowl and added the other ingredients and mixed them together. I did this right in the container that I was going to store it in. This is not on the menu until lunch on Monday but both the kids were occupied so I took advantage of the quite time to get something done. I did try it and it was good but I think it will taste better after it sits in the fridge.

As an added bonus today I discovered that my iPad will fit on my cookbook stand!  That made my day.  I just love the simple little things like that.

Pinterest Review – Spring Cleaning Your Mattress June 20, 2012

A few weeks back school got out and I started the deep cleaning! I striped all the beds and washed all the pillows. When I went to vacuum the mattress I remembered that I had pined something about this. I looked it up and found that I had pined this post from Make It Do about spring cleaning your mattress. It is not hard all you need is baking soda and some essential oil. I did not have the oil on had so I just use the baking soda. Basically you put the baking soda on your mattress, let it set for a bit, and vacuum it off. Did it help…yes.  The bed did smell better and it was simple. Will I do it another time?  Yes.  I think this is like a summer brake winter brake kind of thing for me. That is when I have the time to do it. I think I will try adding the oil next time and see if I like it better.

Pinterest Review – Homemade Febreze for 15 cents a bottle!

Here is the link to the Homemade Febreze that I made off of Pinterest this morning. I washed all the of the sheet today and wanted to Febreze the beds when I remembered….my husband took all of the Febreze to work to spray down the kids bands uniforms during marching season.  I had an empty Febreze bottle at home and remembered that I had pined the Homemade Febreze. Well I gave it a try and it worked well! Best part I had everything I needed at the house. All you need is a spray bottle, fabric softener, baking soda, and water.   My 6 year old said “What smells so good?” after I sprayed it. I am giving it a gold start! Try it and let me know what you think.

NOTE: Here is what I used.  I was shocked at the fact that I had liquid fabric softener because we NEVER use if for the wash. I just had remembered seeing it on the shelf near the washing machine. It is almost full so I will be able to use it for a long time.
