Shelf cost $141.23 – Out of pocket $65.88 – 54% saved The kids vitamins I did not have a coupon for but where on clearance at Wal-Mart it is almost 2 year worth for about $20 and that is a good price. They don’t “need” them but they like them and think they are fun so I am ok with that hurting my over all savings some – I would have been closer to 60% without them. There is also a Ladies Speed Stick MIA in my trunk someplace that I could not find……..

I got a good deal on some Fleischmanns Pizza Crust yeast about a month a go and the kids and I gave it a try today. The best part is you don’t have to let it rise!  Here is the recipe from the Flischmanns web page. It makes one 12 in pizza. I split the dough in to thirds so we would all have our own and there was built in portion control.

Elliott’s Pizza

Kathryn’s Pizza

My Pizza

I used onions, tomatoes, spinach, and left over Corck-pot Chicken. No sauce on mine just some olive oil and pepper!

Thankful vs. Grateful

Surprise baby has gotten me thinking about a lot of different things but the one that has made the biggest change in my life is being grateful. I had this realization that I have been thankful for all of the things we have but I am not sure if I have been grateful for the things I have. I feel that I have never been content with what I have and have been trying to move to the next level in many parts of my life.

When I found out we were having #3 and I was 20 weeks into things I started to stress about how we were all going to fit, and function, in our 3 bedroom 1 bath house. Then my husband and I went to pick up the baby things that I friend of mine from high school wanted to give us and I was reminded that they had chosen to live in a camper with three small kids for three years. His was in the military and they lived in 8 states in 5 years so the camper made things simpler for them.  They had 3 kids in 3 1/2 years and lived in a camper. I am sooo grateful that we have a house and room for us all to be.

I was stressing about not having anything for this baby because we had passed it all on to others. My friends from high school gave us almost everything we needed. I still did not have a big stroller or a high chair but other people I know are passing theirs on two us. With out people like this I don’t know what I would have done. My husbands aunt and sister are so good about handing down boy clothes so that my 3 year old and this baby will have clothes. My 6 year old is the oldest girl so I pass on her things but we don’t get many hand me downs for her. I am grateful she has loving grandparents that make sure she has the clothes she needs.

I could go on but I am sure you get the idea. I am just really learning to appreciated what we have in the way of family, friends, and the hard work my husband and I put into making things work. It has been very humbling.

Family Movie Night

Now that we are really looking to buckle down and save some cash we have started doing Family Night on Friday or Saturday. Sometimes we have crazy Fridays so we can’t do it then. My husband is a band director so we have home games on Fridays and he often has concerts on Friday nights as well.

In order to make movie night as cost effective as possible we are watching movies we have or a movie that we have on the DVR.  We made pop corn on the stove and the kids got to eat it as they watched (that is a super big deal at out house – we eat at the table with the TV OFF).

Here are some other ways to get free movies –

1. Red Box codes – If you live in a town with a Red Box Google Red Box Free Coeds and I am sure that you will find one that works.

2. The Library – Remember that you can check out movies from your local library! You can even get a movie to watch after the kids go to bed for some date time.

3. Swap with a friend – Check with a friend and see what they have that your family does not. Offer to let them use one of your moves. Win -Win for all!

Two Kids One Room – The saga begins! July 24, 2012

I know that many people have to share a room with a sibling and over all it is not a big deal. Now I  have to get a 3 year old and a new baby in one room. As I organize and finish things I will keep you posted. So far it is going better then I thought.

My three year old is kind of on the small side so I moved him into a toddler bed that we had at my moms house  (he had been in the crib with the side off).  I remembered that we had a dresser we where only using as a TV stand down stairs so I have not had to get any furniture!  This dresser is fine but it is not what I wanted. I am thinking of getting some different knobs so it goes with our other furniture better. I also am getting a crib mattress from my husbands aunt so there will be a mattress in the crib.  I had a car/Lego table that we got when my daughter was little that we had to move to my moms house due to lack of space.

This dresser is fine but it is not what I wanted. I am thinking of getting some different knobs so it goes with our other furniture better. I think that I might still have the green that I used on the other dresser.  Not sure if I will use the green. The boy’s room is light blue and brown and has some light green accents. The green dresser was panted to go with the master bedroom two houses ago.

Finding/making space is on the top of my list right now. With using the toddler bed I save a lot of room and found that there is 7 in of clearance under the bed for storage! Last summer we took off the closet doors and added a closet organizer that let us move several toys and the book shelf into the closet. We gained a lot of the floor space back in the room when we did that.  I plan on adding a curtain rood with two curtain panels as well.

I also decided to hang all of the receiving blankets rather then use shelf or drawer space.  In my case I had more hanging space to use. I have two blankets on each hanger and this was a much better uses of the space that I have.

Any tips on two kids sharing a room?
